COVID-19 and self-isolation disproportionately affects seniors—not only is the virus a major health risk, but the isolation can cause loneliness, fear, and depression. As a way to communicate to seniors that we care about them, and to fill their time in self-isolation with more happiness, we’ve launched an arts initiative that will match Toronto-based artists with seniors to provide works of art to be displayed in their room.
In addition to the physical work that will stay with the seniors, an online gallery will be created to spotlight artists that donated work. We aim for this initiative to generate hope and connection, we are strong believers that art makes a difference in the quality of people’s lives. Seniors deserve beautiful surroundings in this difficult time, and art can provide a form of engagement during isolation. Additionally, this initiative will be a way to spotlight emerging Canadian artists and the community-building elements of art.
The health and safety of seniors is our largest priority: we will be handling all work in a sanitized manner.
